PLACE OF FINDING OF ÖTZI - THE ICEMAN
On 19 September 1991, two German tourists found by chance a mummified corpse in the ice of the Similaun glacier at the Hauslabjoch mountain. "Ötzi" the iceman was found at an altitude of 3,200m and is the most ancient finding of a European hunter. Probably he is some 5,300 years old, a fact that gave new impetus to modern archaeology and research.
ANCIENT HUNTING BASE
The outdoor excavation site is located on a small natural terrace at 1,950m above sea level, where Niedertal valley and Rofental valley meet.
